MOOC 'Industrial Biotechnology' starts 30th of September 2015
Learn the basics of sustainable processing for biobased products to further understand their impact on global sustainability.
Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands), BE-Basic Foundation and the University of Campinas (São Paulo, Brazil) have joined forces in offering online education in biotechnology. Starting the 30th of September, they will offer the course ‘Industrial Biotechnology’ for the second time on the edX platform for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC’s). Last year, the MOOC attracted more than 8.000 followers worldwide. The course is free of costs and available for everyone.
In this six weeks course, top experts from both universities as well as guest lecturers from industry provide insights and tools for the design of biotechnology processes in a sustainable way. They will teach the basics of industrial biotechnology and how to apply that to the design of fermentation processes for the production of fuels, chemicals and foodstuffs. Throughout this course, students will be challenged to design their own biotechnological process and to evaluate its performance and sustainability.
This MOOC is designed for students and graduates in the fields of a relevant undergraduate level. The course is also of interest for professionals working in industry, governments and NGO’s. Students who successfully pass the assignments obtain a (free) honorary code. This time, there is also an option to pursue a verified certificate.
