Green Basilisk self-healing concrete receives VC investment
november 17, 2017
Green Basilisk, the TU Delft spin-out, supported by BE-Basic, offering self-healing concrete solutions, has closed a seed investment from SHIFT Invest, an impact investment fund based in the Netherlands.
Concrete which repairs itself when cracks appear was first developed in 2009 by Delft University of Technology’s Henk Jonkers and a team of partners. The self-healing concrete is based on bacteria which produce calcite when fed and activated. Calcite, a natural cement, then repairs the cracks, prolonging the life of the concrete structure. BE-Basic supports the development into a fully-fledged product.
