Tuesday 9 May,  Delft University of Technology signed an agreement to participate in KLM’s Corporate BioFuel Programme. The University will hereby facilitate the use of sustainable biofuels in the business trips of its employees. TU Delft conducts research into biofuels in aviation and, as part of the program, aims to make an active contribution to the operational deployment of more environmentally friendly aircraft fuel. With the Corporate BioFuel program, KLM wants to stimulate the sustainable biofuels market, with the ultimate goal of reducing CO2 emissions.

“By joining the Corporate BioFuel Programme, the Delft University of Technology wishes to emphasise the importance of sustainable civil aviation,” said Tim van der Hagen, President of the Executive Board, TU Delft. Alongside our research into sustainable biofuels – including the development of bio-jet fuels – we believe it’s important that our staff fly as sustainably as possible.”

Participating in the KLM Corporate Biofuel Programme will give the TU Delft the opportunity to reduce the footprint from business travel, set an example to other companies and demonstrate leadership in the field of sustainability. Unlike other transport segments, aviation has no other alternative than to use liquid fuels for the foreseeable future. The development of (local) biofuel production encourages innovation, create employment and support regional development. Which is also an opportunity for TU Delft.
